Ein Projekt der Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie und Kalamari Klub auf der BUGA23
Welche Materialien und Prozesse eignen sich, um in der analogen Fotografie ressourcenschonend und klimafreundlich zu handeln? Mit dem Reallabor für erneuerbare Fotografie laden die Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie und Kalamari Klub die Besucher*innen der Bundesgartenschau 2023 (BUGA 23) in Mannheim dazu ein, das Verhältnis zwischen Fotografie und Ökologie zu erkunden.
Ausgangspunkt ist das Verfahren der Cyanotypie. Es braucht nur Sonnenlicht, Wasser und Eisensalze, um die typisch tiefblauen fotografischen Bilder herzustellen. Die Künstler*innen Carolin Lange und Dico Kruijsse gestalten unter dem Titel Under the same Sun / Unter derselben Sonne eine großformatige Installation aus Cyanotypien an den Fassaden zweier ehemaliger Kasernengebäude, die sich im Eingangsbereich auf dem Spinelli-Gelände befinden.
Vermittlungsangebote
In Workshops können Besucher*innen zusätzlich selbst aktiv werden, die Grundlagen dieser Technik kennenlernen und das künstlerische Werk gemeinsam mit den Künstler*innen mitgestalten. Eine Gesprächsrunde und Führungen bieten darüber hinaus die Möglichkeit, die Beziehungen zwischen Fotografie und Ökologie aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zu entdecken.

Projektpartner
Das Reallabor für erneuerbare Fotografie ist ein Kooperationsprojekt zwischen der Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie und Kalamari Klub und wird von Nicolas Reinhart und Christoph Wieland kuratiert. Das Reallabor für erneuerbare Fotografie wird gefördert durch den Innovationsfonds Kunst des Ministeriums für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg.
Die BUGA 23 findet vom 14. April bis zum 8. Oktober 2023 statt.

Reallabor für erneuerbare Fotografie / Living Lab for Renewable Photography
A project by Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie and Kalamari Klub at BUGA23
Which materials and processes are suitable for acting in a resource-conserving and climate-friendly way in analogue photography? With the Reallabor für erneuerbare Fotografie, the Biennale für aktuelle Fotografie and Kalamari Klub invite visitors to the German national garden show 2023 (‚Bundesgartenschau‚, short ‚BUGA 23‘) in Mannheim to explore the relationship between photography and ecology. The basis for this investigation is the cyanotype process. You only need sunlight, water and iron salts to produce the typical deep blue photographic images. Under the same Sun is a collaborative work by the artists Carolin Lange and Dico Kruijsse, who will create a large-scale installation of cyanotypes on the façades of two former barracks buildings on the Spinelli grounds.
Educational programme
In workshops, visitors can also learn the basics of this technique and help shape the artistic work together with the artists. A round table discussion and guided tours also offer the opportunity to discover the relationships between photography and ecology from different perspectives.
